sound is different from images
because an image can bee seen in an instant,
but sound requires you to travel through time
in order to experience it.
if a picture is worth 1000 words,
how much information is contained
in a 1:49 mp3 file at a sample rate of 44100 @ 320kbps?
outside of record players and some tape machines,
our sound-playing devices don't let us play with
the rate at which we experience their sound-playing.
but why not? it's fun.
and listening to audio at a rate other than 100%
helps you hear it with fresh ears.
PICTO-TAPE combines a variable-rate audio player
with an image whose Y axis represents time.
it serves as a player for arbitrary and/or
imaginary musical notations.
